Instructions

At the top of every page are links to the following:-

The Start page - the introduction.

The Site Map - lists and links to every map and page, including places you cannot get to from anywhere else.

The Key Map - an overview map linked to all 40 individual plates. Click on a named square to go to that section of the map. Once on a map, move to an adjacent plate by clicking on the appropriate edge (for up, down or sideways) or a corner (diagonally).
Clicking on the centre of any plate will take you to a smaller version, with part of all the surrounding plates attached, clicking on the centre of this will take you back.
If you move up from any plate you will arrive at the bottom of the next map. If you move down you will arrive at the top of the next map. If you move sideways from the upper part of a map, you will arrive at the top of the next map, or at the bottom, if you started from the lower part of a map.

The Street Index - lists every place named on the map. Jump to a letter using the A-Z index. Then search for the place you want using the scroll bar, or press F3 or Control & F (find).
Use the link to go to the plate containing the place you are seeking. This will take you to the appropriate top or bottom half of the map.
To further help locate each place, the index also shows a connected place, which is usually larger and may be easier to spot.
If an entry says "see Another Place" or "which see", clicking on "see" will take you to that place.

If you find a place on the map, but cannot read the name, use the index that is sorted by "shown on map as".

Each page opens in the same window, so that you can use your browser's "back" button to retrace your route. Both external links should open in a separate tab or window.

Press Control and + or - to adjust the size of any page. To see more of a map, press function key F11 to turn "Full Screen" on/off.

Printing

Under the terms of the licence you may print any of the maps or other pages for personal use. Please do not try to print the page you want from your browser whilst viewing it. This works for the text pages, but not for scanned images.

All of the maps are jpeg (.jpg) files, because this is the most common picture format and can be viewed with, and printed from, any graphics program.

All the files are named exactly what you would expect them to be called, e.g. the first sectional page (A0.htm) is called A0.jpg and the wider page A0w.htm is called A0w.jpg. These are all in appropriately named folders.

Find the file you want to print and then open it with your favourite graphics program. Every version of Windows includes a program that can re-size a map and print it on A4 paper. You may need to experiment to achieve the best balance between size and quality.
