A street index from 1922 of 16,513 places in London produces a very similar graph of initial letters, but a dramatic change in the proliferation of the most popular suffix. By then, Road had become the most usual, with 47% and Street dropping to second position with 23%, Lane dropped to 3%. Place fell from second position to a mere 2%, with Avenue racing ahead to 4%.
